Midas Café, located at the second level of Midas Hotel and Casino along Roxas Blvd., is gaining some traction in the hotel buffet scene; thanks to the lower rate offered by a discount site. I’ve read a lot of positive reviews about Midas Café’s buffet and wanted to experience it myself.

Interiors
The interior of Midas Café is simple, casual and refined. Mirrors on the low ceiling, walls and beams not only gives an illusion of space, it also makes the restaurant look more stylish.
Midas Café buffet stations are conveniently clustered together but are not cramped. There is also adequate space in between tables. Unfortunately, some of the chairs are wobbly, I experienced the same on the two tables we transferred to. We were joking that the chairs are not able to handle the added weight of the buffet patrons.
Food
When I go to buffets, I do my best to sample as many of the dishes on offer and pick my favorites. Oftentimes, though, I no longer have room to get second servings from the ones I like. And Midas Café buffet has a lot to offer.
I don’t usually see this much assortment of bread in buffets, I particularly like Midas Café buffet’s Danish Bread that comes in three different flavors. There is also a selection of cheeses, from which I favor the cream cheese.
Midas Café’ buffet’s Potato Salad with Cheese is my favorite among the salads. Yes, I tried all of them. Haha! I was not able to taste their pasta though. I figured that would be too heavy, and I wanted to save room, a lot of room, for dessert. And I’m glad I did!
If you’ve read my Vikings Buffet post, you should already know how much I like sushi and maki; definitely had a number of those! The sashimi is also pretty good. Sharing the sushi station, the Mussels with Salsa is a definite must try!
At the carving station, I was given a huge chunk of the medium-rare Striploin (I prefer my meat cooked all the way through); had to give it to my companion. Good thing Midas Café buffet doesn’t impose the “no sharing rule” that most other buffets do. The gravy was good though.
Midas Café buffet’s Seafood Kebab is my favorite from the grilling station. Perhaps this is because I had difficulty distinguishing the difference in taste from the barbecue sauce used for the meats. Don’t get me wrong, it was still good; only I was expecting a distinct oomph from each.
Time for the main course! I consider the previous dishes entrées. Hahaha! There is also a noodle station at the far end on one side of Midas Café’s kitchen, which is hardly noticeable; that, or none of the diners are a fan of noodles.
Among Midas Café buffet’s twelve (if I remember correctly) main dishes, I liked the Galbi Jim the most. The Pepper Squid and Pork Roast comes in at a close second and third, respectively.
Now comes the moment I’ve been (without success) holding back my appetite for… Dessert! For some strange reason, I’ve recently developed a liking for sweet things. And this station, among all others in Midas Café buffet, spoke to me loudest and clearest.
Among all the sweets Midas Café buffet has to offer, hard as it may to believe (maybe not) – I had one of each, my favorites are the Cream-filled Puffs, Coffee Jelly and Pistachio Cookies. The flan was really creamy, the syrup was a little too sweet for me though. What I like about Midas Café buffet’s desserts is that each item offers a different flavor. Also, the little details on these little, sweet, sugary goodness just makes you want to pick one from each kind for their presentation alone. It’s like a collection you need to complete!
Other sweet goodness Midas Café buffet have are halo-halo and fruits. There is also a crêpier on standby in case you want to have some crêpe. For beverage, you can choose from dalandan, guyabano and four seasons. There is also coffee. No beer as far as I know.
Service
Service is a positive experience at Midas Café buffet. The food stations are never empty; and unlike my experience from Vikings, the beverage station is quickly refilled. Empty plates are promptly whisked away from our table, and drinking water never goes beyond half empty. The staff also approached and informed each table 30 minutes prior to end of buffet.
Final Thoughts
Midas Café buffet, with the regular rate, is a bit indulgent by general standards; the dining experience is worth it though. With this in mind, it’s likely to be one of those fancy places you’d consider going to only on special occasions.
With the discounted rate, Midas Café buffet is a definite steal. Wonderful service, tasteful interiors and, most importantly, a wide selection of food makes for an altogether special dining experience. The fact that you need not pay a premium amount for a sumptuous, gustatory indulgence leaves not only your taste buds satisfied, but also your pockets.
