Unlike the market we visited in Ayutthaya, the Saturday Night Market of Old Sukhothai immerses you in the local scene. The place is made for the local community.
Be Informed
The night market is located approximately 500 meters from the eastern gate/walls of Old Sukhothai. It’s a bit of a walk from our accommodation at the Old City Guesthouse. We didn’t mind walking. However, the unlit street outside the city walls made us want to turn back a couple of times. The market is located in a small, open lot.
The night market seemed popular with the locals. There were many vehicles parked on the roadside. The place was packed with people when we got there at around 6:00 pm. The festive vibe has blaring music and spotlights dancing in the night sky.
Saturday Night Market Old Sukhothai is open on Saturdays from 5:00 in the afternoon to 9:00 in the evening.
Shop
You’ll find almost anything in the market, from shirts and children’s toys to electronics and so much more. Being directed at the local community, most items on sale are things a person or a family might need for their home, with little in the way of souvenirs.
Food
There are a lot of food options being sold. There are meals in plastic bags for takeaway, tropical fruits, street food and pastries. Tables and chairs are set up in the middle of the market.
Final Thoughts
If you plan to shop for souvenirs and things to give to family and friends back home, I’d recommend going to another market. But if you’re looking for an authentic local night market, then the Saturday Night Market Old Sukhothai is the place to go.
